初一看，还真不知道什么意思。worth one’s salt，值他那点盐巴？事实上， worth one’s salt 指的是称职的意思。前面那句话是说：任何称职的青少年都会沉迷于即时消息聊天。

根据 wonderpolis 介绍，这个说法源自古罗马。当时盐比较稀少，卖的很贵，有钱人才吃得起盐。盐被成为 white gold。你吃几天不加盐的菜，就懂了。

古罗马的战士可以领到一份特殊的工资，称为 salarium。战士们可以用 salarium 买盐吃。薪水 salary 就是从 salarium 演变来的。
